With a week to go before the 2012 Short’s to Short’s Paddle, we are especially excited for this year’s event. As indicated in our previous post, we’re making a lot of upgrades this year. For example, ISLAND will be selling breakfast burritos and coffee at the launch site and we’ll have lots of porta-poddies located throughout the course. Plus, now that Moosejaw is sponsoring the event, the first 300 paddlers to attend our post-paddle party are going to get free one-of-a-kind Moosejaw/Short’s to Short’s t-shirts. Paddlers will also receive a complimentary beer glass from Land and Sea Packaging. The post-paddle party at our Elk Rapids production brewery will run from 4-9 on Friday night and will be a great lead-in to the Anniversary Party and Aww Jeah release the next day. Even non-paddlers are welcome at the party, and we’ll be premiering MMMkay, the lagered final runnings of Aww Jeah, on tap for the first time.

Every year, about a week before the Short’s to Short’s Paddle, a small group of SBC employees embark on an “unofficial” version of the event that we call the Pre-Paddle. We do this to check the conditions, test our gear, and gather insight for the year’s “official” event. This year, we created a complete video recap of the Pre-Paddle to help paddlers prepare for the Short’s to Short’s. The day we selected was cold and windy to start, but turned pleasant and sunny by the end of the day. It just goes to show, you always need to pack a lot of clothing and gear for whatever the weather presents.

Transportation is being provided separately for this event by Green Planet Extreme Adventure Tours. They are offering a wide range of transportation options, including rides from Elk Rapids to Bellaire before the event, rides from Elk Rapids to Bellaire after the event, and pick-ups at drop out points during the event. Please contact Green Planet for information and to pre-book your transportation.

Finally, if you have any last minute questions about the Short’s to Short’s Paddle, please email matt@shortsbrewing.com. And remember, if you are coming to the Paddle, you are going to want to stick around for the Anniversary Party on Saturday.

See you next weekend!

We’re celebrating Short’s 8th Anniversary on Saturday, April 28th! The party kicks off at 3 p.m., but we’ll start selling Aww Jeah! (Double Huma) at 1 p.m. At this time, we have not set a case limit for Aww Jeah, although we may implement a limit (2 or 3 cases), in order to make sure that most people who want it are able to get some.

Unbelievable Beer List
We’re featuring 20 draft beers, 2 firkin beers (Anniversary Ale and Aww Jeah), and several other products in bottles. The complete list is on the promotional poster here, but draft highlights include: Mmmkay (an insanely delicious hoppy lager made with the final runnings of AwwJeah), Whiskey Happy Jack, ’09 Liberator, Batch 666 Wizard, Bourbon Aphasia, Bourbon Stellar Ale, and 2009 Mystery Stout. Other draft beers include Adia’s Ale, Freedom of ’78, Sustenance, Cinnamon Dopplebock, Goodnight Bodacious, Nitro ESB, Autumn Ale, Magician, and Locals Light. We’re also releasing a unique batch of Huma Lupa Licious in bottles that we’re calling Huma X. It is a bottle conditioned Huma Lupa Licious that we made while conducting testing for Aww Jeah!

Musical Guests
As always, we’ve booked a solid lineup of artists. This year, we’re introducing first time Anniversary Party musicians the Adam LeBeaux Band and the Moxie Strings (f/k/a String Cheese). As is our tradition, we’ve asked Reggie and the After Party to get their band back together to close down our Anniversary Party with an extended set of funk, rock, rhythm, and blues.

State of the Brewery
As so much good stuff has happened over the past year, we’re very curious to hear what Joe is going to say during his Annual State of the Brewery Address. We’re also wondering which son or sons will be joining him onstage? The State of the Brewery Address will be at 7:30 p.m.

Anniversary Weekend Events
We hold the Short’s to Short’s Paddle on the Friday before the Anniversary Party. The complete weekend schedule of events is as follows:

Friday April 27
• Short’s to Short’s Paddle
• S2S After Party at Elk Rapids Production Brewery (general public welcome), 4-9 p.m.

Saturday April 28
• Aww Jeah Pre-Sale 1:00 p.m.
• Anniversary Party 3:00 p.m. – close

We hope to see you there!
