Love Knife

A Belgian Amber Ale, because I love you so much!

A brownish red Belgian ale that explodes with fruit filled aromas of strawberry, banana, and nectarine. Malt sweetness is quite low allowing similar fruit flavors throughout complimented by hints of spice and a slight bitterness.

Origin Story

One day while looking over popular Belgian beer styles, Tony noted that for middle of the road malty beers, Belgians were lacking in the Amber Ale department. Therefore, he decided to create a recipe with a malt bill that loosely resembled a typical Amber Ale found in the states. By simply adding Belgian yeast, Tony would have created a uniquely new and different hybridized style, but decided "why stop there?" Venturing further into uncommonly placed ingredients in an already uncommon beer style, Tony decided to brew this new "Belgian Amber Ale" entirely with American hop varieties and to use more hops than normal. The result was an overshadowing of the expected malt sweetness with an increase of fruity citrus hop flavors. He also created some heightened hoppy qualities on the nose by implementing dry hop additions near the end of fermentation. Another brewing practice embraced whole heatedly by American craft brewers and an additional step that would rarely be seen in a foreign beer style like this, if it even existed in the first place. The end result is what Tony is calling a Dry Hopped Belgian Amber Ale, and I can guarantee that unlike the Pan Galactic and other Belgian IPA's, you will not come across too many other styles/experiments like this one.
