September Bliss

A hoppy pale yellow lager brewed with malted rye and orange zest. Bold orange and citrus hop aromas open up the senses for this light bodied refreshing brew. Malty sweetness is quite low allowing for fruity and dank hop flavors to be the focus. The finish is pleasantly bitter with notable dry and spicy rye contributions.

Origin Story

September Bliss was brewed as a wedding ale to commemorate Curt Guntzviller's marriage! Now it’s the fifth wedding ale to get brewed at Short's (I guess we're a bunch of sentimental softies that love having our beers play an important role on such an important day in peoples lives.) Below is Curt's recollection on how this blissful beer came to be: “First, I didn't really have a name for the beer until the morning of the wedding, and asked my best man (Vince Cooper) for ideas, we threw around a few ideas about September and happiness and settled on "September Bliss". As for the style, I definitely wanted something in the lower ABV class so you could drink a few of them but still be able to mingle with guests. I wanted something lite, refreshing, and citrusy, but also enjoy beers with a little spiciness. So a rye lager with orange zest seemed to fit the bill. I fired up a couple homebrew batches with lemon zest and ginger first, but wasn't very pleased with them, so I then switched it to orange zest and cut the ginger. I was pleased with the outcome of the homebrew and sent the recipe on to T$ and Rhyno. Rhyno did a spectacular job brewing it and it came out better than I expected it.” What Curt didn't mention was the close call in getting the beer to the wedding on time. From what I have been told, Ryan transferred the beer on Friday, giving it less than a day to brighten and obtain proper carbonation. On Saturday morning Ryan went to Bellaire (fancy clothes and all), filled a keg for the wedding, and dropped it off to Curt at the reception with only minutes to spare!
