Have you ever wanted to friz-out your hair and relive the Big 80′s? Like, seriously, now’s your chance! We’re having an 80′s prom on Saturday, April 2nd!
Here’s your prom planning checklist:
Circle April 2nd on your calendar! You won’t want to miss this party.
Ask the person you have the biggest crush on to be your date. Girls, you can ask guys.
Girls, break out those 80s prom dresses! The crazier the better!
Grow out your bangs, because we’re going to have an on-site stylist creating 80s hairdos.
Get ready to dance like a cool kid, because we’re going to have DJ spinning all the 80s classics.
This is going to be an event like no other at Short’s. And the best part about going back to the 80′s this time around is that you’re old enough to drink and you’re at Short’s! Keep checking our website for more 80s prom updates!
Don’t miss your chance to view Michigan’s state record muskie and hear from Kyle Anderson, the master angler who caught it! We will have the fish on display at Short’s on Saturday, March 12th and Sunday, March 13th. Kyle will give talks at 2pm and 5pm on both days.
Caught in September of 2009, the fish measured fifty six inches long and weighed fifty pounds. To commemorate the event, Short’s is offering $1 off your first pint to anyone with a valid fishing license.
At Short’s, we love Winter Beer Fests, and the Michigan Winter Beer Fest in Grand Rapids is the granddaddy of them all!
For those who were present, and those who are curious, we have put together a video showing you the “behind the scenes” on how this year’s festival concept came together from the gathering of the ice blocks through the actual Winter Beer Fest in Grand Rapids. Check it out!
Since the ice cutting involved use of a modified chain saw and other hardcore power tools, don’t try this at home. Trust us! The guys doing this are trained, highly skilled professionals.
“Ooo Baby” — the awesome song in the video — is used with the permission of the awesome band Funktion from Kalamazoo. Be sure to check out their website, here:
For more images from the Winter Beer Fest, check out our Flickr pages: here and here.
We congratulate the entire staff of Short’s Brewing Company for their contributions to the Winter Beer Fest and thank all of those who attended!
Strap on your snowshoes and head out to Timber Ridge Resort in Traverse City this weekend to experience world class microbrews from Short’s outside, under the open sky. We love this event because it combines our love of being outdoors in Northern Michigan with beer! You can’t go wrong! Another great thing about this event is that our booth in the forest really allows us to express our winter creativity. We love building things out of ice and snow! For this year’s event, we are working on something special that you won’t want to miss!
Our beer selection for this event is a perfect encore and compliment to a day of snowshoeing in the woods:
Huma Lupa Licious
Bludgeon Yer Eye IPA
Carrot Cake
Mama’s Strawberry Milk
Whiskey Sour
Snow Wheat
Good Samaritan
Along with the breweries that will be present, there will be food from local restaurants, and live music. Tickets are $20/person in advance/$30 on the day of the event. Tickets include a trail pass, a commemorative pint glass, and a complimentary pint of beer. All proceeds benefit local charities. Don’t forget to put on your Short’s gear! Click here for more details. We’ll see you there!
Today as we were making heart-shaped valentines envelopes out of paper plates and decorating them with pink and red construction paper hearts, it occurred to us: we should do a Valentines Day special at Short’s! Really, we were just hoping you’d bring us some cool Valentines cards. So here is the deal: (literally, it’s a deal!)… On Valentines day, you can get a 16 inch pizza with up to 2 toppings and 2 regular pints for $20! So come on down to Short’s and share your love for pizza and beer with your super special someone, the love of your life, that dude from the apartment down the hall, or even yourself!
Don’t miss your chance to view Michigan’s state record muskie and hear from the master angler who caught it! On September 27, 2009 Kyle Anderson of Rapid City, a regular patron of the Short’s pub and friend of Joe Short, caught a monster 56 inch 50 pound muskellunge while trolling in nearby Torch Lake. Named “Queenie” by the Department of Natural Resources, this massive muskellunge broke the previous state record, held for over 25 years, by a whopping two and a half pounds.
We will have the fish on display at Short’s on Saturday March 12th and Sunday March 13th. Mr. Anderson will be present talk about the techniques that he used to catch this fish and about muskie fishing in general.
Calling all Iceman Riders!! Short’s Brewing Company and Team Huma is inviting you to come and join us for a Beer and Macaroni Dinner at the Pub on Friday November 5th. It’s time to get your carbo on before the big race on Saturday. Team Huma largely consists of the Short’s Brew Staff and friends of Short’s. We’re going to feast on Chef Jeff’s famous Mac & Cheese and have a few beers around 6:00 pm Friday (but the special is available all day). We’re also offering any rider (with proof of race registration) 15% off of their food and beer tab just because. Of course you’ll have to come find us at the Ice Hole on Race Day for some pre and post race pints at Timber Ridge Resort!
UPDATE! The match has been cancelled until further notice, check back here for any new updates on the matter.
As you’ll recall, we had a hard fought game against our brothers in Traverse City a little while back. This coming Wednesday, we’ll be having a rematch at a location to be determined. Come cheer on your favorite team, or just come and support two great local craft brewers as we get a little exercise in. Check back here for a final location, and in the meantime enjoy some pictures from our last event.
