Short's Brewing Company Expansion
Shorts Brewing Company announces Bellaire Expansion, new Elk Rapids facility.
Bellaire, MI - February 4, 2008 - Today Shorts Brewing Company (SBC) announced a $1.9 million expansion including upgrading and adding to its facilities. The expansion will be in two phases. Phase One will be to construct a new production facility in Elk Rapids, MI. The new facility will allow SBC to dramatically expand the production of its popular Shorts Beer brand. The project will involve the purchase of a new 18,000 sq ft building and the installation of approximately $500,000 of new equipment. The project is already underway and it is hoped that all regulatory approvals will be passed and beer will be available from the facility by late spring.
Phase Two will be started in late 2008 and will see an expansion of the Bellaire location. The pub will be expanded to offer more space and the kitchen will be renovated to be able to offer a larger selection to more people. There are numerous other plans to make the pub a focus of the town and to draw in more visitors to the area. Both expansions will generate large tax revenues and lead to the creation of a significant number of jobs.
In selecting an area to expand we searched all over Northern Michigan. “It was thanks to such a persuasive chamber in Elk Rapids that we finally decided to place the new production facility in the Village” said Scott Newman-Bale, Vice-President of Shorts Brewing Company on announcing the expansion.
SBC will be expanding its product offerings to bottles starting late spring. An estimated launch date of May 5th has been set with the most popular beers Huma-Lupa IPA and Bellaire Brown to be the first release. Presale for retail locations will be beginning March 1st and a sell out is expected.
“After the expansion is completed we aim to expand our distribution network to other states” said Joseph Short. Currently SBC has had distribution offers from most states and even other countries, there are no specific plans on what states may be first in line to receive Shorts.
SBC would like to thank Ed Bailey (Windridge Consulting), Terri Crandall-Kimble (Elk Rapids Chamber of Commerce), Lydia Murray (Michigan Economic Development Corporation), Andy Hayes and Sheri Rhoads (Northern Lakes Economic Alliance) for there hard work in helping SBC expand.
