“I like it when somebody gets excited about something. It’s nice.”
-J.D. Salinger

Quoted from The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger may as well have been discussing this week’s release of Ginger in the Rye throughout the state of Michigan. The release marks the triumphant return of this storied brew to bottles, original conceived as beer 5 of 13 in the 2007 Short’s Imperial Series.

Ginger in the Rye (7% ABV, 39 IBU) is an experimental ale brewed with rye, Munich malt, and fresh ginger. It pours a deep gold with a shy white head that dissipates quickly. The aroma offers a zing of fresh ginger mixed with hints of spice and faint banana fragrances, all alluding to the complexity of this unassuming ale. Sharp, crisp, and refreshing overall, Ginger in the Rye’s intricate blend of flavors lingers pleasantly on the palate.

Go ahead and get excited. It’s nice!

As the days grow longer, so do the hours in a day when a deliciously crisp IPA can be enjoyed. As the sunshine becomes more of a reality than a memory, we look forward to long, lazy days spent outside grilling on the patio and cruising around the lake on the ol’ Sea Ray. Combining our passion for IPAs and sessionable brews, Short’s is pleased to announce the statewide release of a beer made for those in it for the springtime long haul: Prolonged Enjoyment!

The aromas pouring off of this light-bodied Session India Pale Ale (3.5% ABV, 47 IBU) simulate handfuls of fresh green hops being held up to one’s nose. Huge earthy hop fragrances of green grass, pine, and citrus fruit intoxicate the senses and led judges to vote Prolonged Enjoyment Best Overall IPA at the 2012 World Beer Expo. The slightest sweet malty flavors are met quickly by zesty citrus American hop characteristics. Bitter qualities linger briefly before a mildly dry finish that’s complemented again by accents of pine and pure refreshment. Get your hands on a six pack and settle in for Prolonged Enjoyment!

When in the Course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the follicular bands which have connected them to the bearded or clean-shaven, Short’s finds due cause to triumphantly declare freedom to grow, admire, and honor the Mustache!

Enter Hopstache.

An American IPA, Hostache exemplifies the bold citrus flavors and aromas provided by certain American hop varieties (in this case Simcoe, Amarillo, and Citra). The aroma is dominated by earthy grapefruit tones. Initial malt sweetness is quite low and tart citrus and floral hop qualities overpower other perceived flavors. Aided by the addition of grapefruit zest, the finish electrifies the mouth, but is not unbearably bitter.

Conceived by Beer Liberator Jon Wojtowicz, Hopstache was first brewed as a celebration of Woj’s wedding and named for the theme of his 30th birthday party. The label depicts Joe Short’s very first mustache, a mustache he’s since diligently improved upon towards the marvel we experience today.

Due to the overwhelmingly positive reactions by pub patrons and fans at festivals who tried Hopstache (5.7% ABV and 106 IBU), we are excited to announce bottles will be making their way to shelves statewide for the very first time this week. Experience for yourself the infatuating power of the ‘Stache!
