Now Hiring an IT Support/Web Developer

The IT Support & Web Developer is responsible for making sure the company’s technology is consistently functioning. The IT Support & Web Developer will focus on website development, including our website, webstore, and other various internal applications, as well as technical support for both our Bellaire & Elk Rapids locations. IT support and web development at Short’s is dynamic and involves multiple locations and events. The IT Support & Web Developer will be based out of Elk Rapids, MI, with the ability to frequently travel to other Short’s locations or events, as needed.

 

The IT Support & Web Developer is a full-time, at-will, salaried position under the supervision of the Director of Quality, Maintenance & IT.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • IT Support

    • Respond in a timely manner to all user incidents and requests, including phone calls, emails, and tickets submitted to the support ticket system. Thoroughly and efficiently gather user information for IT customer service requests, access and fulfill their needs, educate where applicable to prevent repeat problems, and document interactions through contact tracking. Follow up with users to ensure the problem has been resolved.

    • Support IT needs at special events & festivals.

    • Proactively maintain and monitor all IT equipment (including printers), hardware and software and order new equipment as needed.

    • Provide guidance and training for day-to-day application and service use.

    • Install and maintain systems and services for all locations, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, data storage and sharing, VoIP, and Intranet sites.

    • Maintain data storage integrity and secure offsite backups of critical data, including databases, file storage, and server images.

    • Maintain the function of all components of the client/server Point of Sale system.

    • Maintain a multiple-site network infrastructure topology, including WAN, LAN, and WLAN systems.

    • Maintain real-time virus and malware protection of all workstations, servers, and shared storage, as well as regular on-demand scans, as required.

    • Assist in disaster recovery testing, as requested.

    • Continuously evaluate and identify opportunities to drive process improvements that positively impact interactions with the IT department. 

    • Complete administrative duties as requested, including but not limited to:

      • Research, procure and keep inventory of all hardware and software assets. 

      • Manage vendor relationships, and oversee vendor support as needed.

      • Publish and maintain both technical and end-user documentation for all systems and procedures.

      • Effectively communicate regarding the timing of IT changes and upgrades, and the integration of such changes.

      • Provide technical guidance on any project or task not falling under traditional IT department responsibilities, such as audio/visual, surveillance, etc.

      • Maintain on-call availability.

  • Website Development

    • Collaborate with Design, Marketing, and IT for website designs.

    • Assist Design and Marketing in solving website quality assurance issues.

    • Create, develop, and maintain websites both internal and public for Short’s Brewing Company, Starcut Ciders, and other sister brands.

    • Assist and advise on website issues and/or defects.

    • Evaluate and test software programs to verify programs function according to user requirements.

    • Ensure that all design elements, templates, and finished solutions work within a variety of browser types and screen settings along with the constraints set by development and design. 

 

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or Associate's degree in IT or related field or equivalent on the job experience.

  • Ability to work alone as well as collaboratively.

  • Strong time management skills. Must be able to adapt to meet tight deadlines while juggling competing priorities.

  • Good writing, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of organization, planning, records management, and general administration.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively in a manner that those not comfortable with computers will be able to understand. Provide excellent customer service.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • Extremely computer literate. Proficient in all programs, especially Microsoft products (including Server), MacOS, Google Mail and Apps, Photoshop and Illustrator, Networking, Firewalls, etc.

  • Solid understanding of WordPress and Plugins (including eCommerce).

  • Ability to write well-crafted HTML5, PHP or Javascript ES6+, and CSS.

  • In-depth understanding of Javascript, especially jQuery framework and NodeJS.

  • Familiar with common databases (primarily MySQL).

  • Familiar with business applications such as ERP and CRM.

  • Knowledge of browsers and their limitations.

  • Familiar with common hosting practices, on-site and Cloud.

  • AWS experience a plus (EC2, Lambda, etc.)

  • Version Control (Git/Bitbucket) experience a plus

  • RESTful API experience a plus

  • Must possess a valid MI drivers license.

 

Physical Abilities: 

  • Consistently carry 25 pounds and occasionally lift and carry 50 pounds.

  • Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, lifting, kneeling, and accessing hard-to-reach places.

  • Able to climb stairs and ladders.

  • Frequently reach with hands and arms.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision,  depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
