Calling all beer enthusiasts! Are you ready to embark on an exciting adventure as a Seasonal Pubtender at the Pub at Short’s Brewing Company in the picturesque town of Bellaire, MI?

 

If you have a passion for craft beer, a friendly demeanor, and a talent for making people feel at home, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for!

 

Pubtenders greet customers, answer questions, and explain menu items and specials. They interact with guests and are excited to educate them on our beer, food, and Short’s history and culture. Pubtenders take food and drink orders, pour beer, fill sample flights, run food, bus tables, and help maintain the cleanliness of the pub. No job is too big or too small; if it needs to be done, a Pubtender will work with their team to get the job done.

 

This is an at-will, hourly, and tipped position that reports to Pub Management.

 

Daily Duties:

  • Provide the best possible customer service with each guest:
    • Invest in the customer.
    • Start with a friendly greeting. Introduce yourself and remember your patrons’ names.
    • Be knowledgeable on our products to help each guest find the best choice for them.
    • Anticipate guests’ needs. Know when they need a re-fill of their soda, another beer, or need their table cleared.
    • Learn your regulars and know their likes and dislikes.
  • Be personable and unique while maintaining professionalism. Embrace your quirkiness!
  • Ensure food and drinks arrive in a timely manner. 
  • Report any issues or complaints to the manager on duty immediately.
  • Monitor the behavior and safety of our guests and ensure state/local liquor regulations are obeyed.
  • Understand how to fully operate the TOAST POS system.
  • Ensure glassware is clean and up to our standards. Understand how to use the glasswashers.
  • The Pubtender must be knowledgeable and always learning. He/she is an expert on our beer, cider, food, and company culture.
  • Master the perfect pour of beer.
  • Ensure the pub is clean and sanitary at all times, whether it is busy or not. Keep tables and chairs straight and clean. Sweep the floor throughout each shift. Regularly check the bathrooms.
  • Perform all daily tasks as needed, including running food, pre-bussing and bussing tables, stocking bars and side stations, hostessing, and greeting guests.
  • Work as a team in cooperation with other pubtenders, bussers, hosts, and managers.
  • AM staff must follow the opening check-list to ensure all tasks are completed and that the pub is stocked, clean, and ready to open.
  • Complete the required duties at transition. AM staff must complete stocking duties as outlined on the check-list. AM staff must introduce any guests they are helping to the PM staff and transition any important information (ex: are they on separate checks?).
  • The PM staff must follow the closing check-list to ensure all cleaning and stocking duties are performed each night.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Consistently lift and carry 10 pounds and occasionally lift and carry 50 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, pushing, lifting, kneeling and reaching.
  • Must be able to stand for the entire shift, up to ten hours.
  • Consistently able to use repetitive hand and wrist motion.
  • Work with hot, cold, and hazardous equipment.
  • Climb stairs several times a day
  • Frequent washing of hands.

 

Other Requirements:

  • Utilize math skills to accurately take money, return proper change and perform calculations. 
  • Read and write orders and draft emails. 
  • Utilize organizational skills to manage tables and tabs.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Operate phones.
  • Accurately use POS.
  • Communicate clearly with employees and customers. 
  • Frequent problem solving.
  • TIPS certified.
