Short’s Brewing Company is seeking an energetic, guest-focused Host / Busser to join our Bellaire brewpub team. This dual-role position is essential to creating an outstanding guest experience—from the first greeting at the door to the last plate cleared from the table.
Host/Bussers are ambassadors of the Short’s brand and play a hands-on role in maintaining a welcoming, clean, and efficient pub environment. This position requires teamwork, flexibility, urgency, and a positive attitude. No job is too big or too small—if it needs to be done, we do it together.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Experience & Hosting
- Warmly greet guests upon arrival and thank them as they leave
- Manage guest flow, seating, and waitlists using POS
- Clearly communicate wait times and manage guest expectations
- Maintain a clean, organized host stand and waiting area
- Answer phones, take accurate messages, and process to-go orders
- Share knowledge of Short’s Brewing Company, Starcut Ciders, the menu, and the local area
- Monitor guest behavior and escalate concerns to management as needed
- Ensure compliance with state and local liquor laws
Bussing & Dining Room Support
- Deliver hot food promptly—hot food always comes first
- Clear, clean, and reset tables efficiently between guests
- Maintain clean and sanitary tables, chairs, floors, and bar areas
- Pre-buss tables to remove plates, baskets, and glassware
- Learn daily floor plans to support servers and respond to guest needs
- Follow through on guest requests, either directly or by communicating with Pubtenders
- Roll silverware throughout shifts to ensure adequate supply
- Use downtime to complete cleaning projects (stage, breakroom, backstage, highchairs, etc.)
Teamwork & Operations
- Operate the POS system accurately
- Communicate clearly and consistently with coworkers and management
- Assist teammates to improve workflow and service efficiency
- Complete opening and closing checklists as assigned
- Maintain awareness in a fast-paced, crowded environment
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Lift and carry up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally
- Frequent bending, lifting, kneeling, reaching, and stooping
- Stand and move for shifts up to 10 hours
- Use repetitive hand and wrist motions
- Work with hot, cold, and potentially hazardous equipment
- Navigate stairs multiple times per shift
- Frequent hand washing
- Ability to work safely on slippery floors while carrying trays and dishes
