Campfire Choir

Imperial Smoked Porter aged in Two James J Riddle barrels

Campfire Choir is an Imperial Smoked Porter aged in Two James J Riddle barrels. Pitch black in color there are aromas of bourbon, smoke, dark chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and oak. Leading with smoky peat flavors from the specialty malt and J Riddle barrels, there are also notes of bourbon, dark chocolate, and light coffee flavors blending together for a full body and decadent mouthfeel. Hints of vanilla give this beer a touch of sweetness before finishing smooth.

Origin Story

Lukas Whitley created this beer. The recipe was formed because Luke had never heard of someone making a Porter with peat smoked malt, and then aging it in a unique Peat Smoked Bourbon (J. Riddle from 2 James). He thinks the Patagonia malts and Simpson Peat Smoked malt put this over the top, and made it tasty. His wife, Merissa, bought him a bottle of J. Riddle for his birthday a couple years ago, and it was one of his favorite liquors he has ever had, and continues to be. He loved Alaskan Brewing's famous Smoked Porter, and wanted to make a unique Short's version of that beer. For the label... He pictured a Grizzly Adams, off the grid, woodsman type person, strumming a banjo and singing with all his woodland friends.

Name Origin

Luke was batting around a few other names that had more to do with Loch Ness monsters, because of the Peat-smoked Scotch/Scotland aspect of this beer. He landed on Campfire Choir, which alludes to the smokiness of the beer, and he immediately had artwork ideas for this name.
