Grasshoppah

A unique IPA with a distinct caramel brown color derived from the unconventional use of Chocolate malt. The nose is fresh and green with hints of chocolate mint hidden in the background. A faint mild sweetness is precieved up front followed by strong toasted and roasted malt qualities. As the beer warms, plentiful flavors of chocolate mint abound before leading into a pleasantly bitter finish comprised of excellent herbal and grassy hop characteristics.

Origin Story

Grasshoppah, a brand new concept beer brought to you by our lead cellar man James Short. According to James, the idea stemmed from a late night TV commercial encounter followed by an excruciatingly hot day of working in the cellar. A few months back, James was at home watching TV and a commercial came on for a new mint chocolate chip Klondike bar. Not thinking too much about it at the time, James went to work the next day to some surprisingly brutal conditions inside the facility. As the internal temperature at the plant exceeded 100deg (or at least that's what it feels like when the brewhouse is going and you are working w/ hot liquids all day) James could not stop thinking about that Klondike commercial and how a cool blast from a chocolate and mint ice cream bar would really hit the spot. That got him thinking about beer and how the use of Chocolate Mint could be a really cool and refreshing ingredient. Seeing as it was the middle of the summer and temperatures were still pretty hot outside a stout didn't seem to fit the bill. James, being like many Short's employees, loves his hoppy beers and knew how equally refreshing these styles could be, decided that an IPA would be a really cool foundation to experiment with this exotic addition of Chocolate Mint. After that, the name pretty much picked itself. Similar to the minty chocolate mixed drink called the Grasshopper, James simply dropped the "er" added a "ah" and the fun little play on words ended up being a direct correlation to hoppy nature of this beer.
