Origin Story

From Luke: The ball got rolling with this recipe when I was thinking of ways to use the rest of the dried ancho chiles that we had left from making "El Pastel". Instead of using the peppers in a darker/malty beer, I pictured a juicy/hoppy lager with just a tinge of spice. I thought Orange would be a good accompanying flavor with the hops I selected (Ekuanot and Cryo Citra). The pepper flavor from the Ancho Chiles ended up being extremely subtle, So I added some cayenne pepper in post-fermentation to get the spice factor dialed up a little bit. The result, in my head was going to be a hoppy/not bitter, Juicy/not sweet, and Spicy, but not overpowering lager. Hope you enjoy! The name for this beer is a line from David Bowie's song "Fame". It's a line that constantly gets stuck in my head whenever I hear the song. I thought it was fitting for this beer because "Is it any Wonder" that we made a spicy, hoppy orange juice lager at Short's? The answer is no. Artwork is a vintage space man, with an orange for a head, donning Bowie's signature lightning bolt on his face. He has a grenade bandolier across his chest, full of chili peppers, and a sweet space gun that shoots hop cones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGWRpPHYSwA
