Moher Stout

Double Irish Style Stout

A medium bodied Double Irish Stout, black in color with a rich brown lace. Light roast malt and bitter cocoa aromas lead into big creamy mocha flavors. Aided by the addition of flaked oatmeal, the finish is exceptionally smooth, with only a slight dryness and moderate roasted bitterness.

Origin Story

When provided with the opportunity to add one more appropriately themed beer to this year's holiday weekend line up, Ryan Hale quickly called out for something he had been wanting to do for a while. With the help of Tony Hansen, the two created a recipe that was essentially the same as Uncle Steve's, but double the size, and included the addition of flaked oatmeal to give the beer a noticeable heightened creaminess. With a final malt bill that totaling 1,125 lbs, Ryan had to mash in two separate times, because the system in Bellaire could never hold this much grain all at once. The guys also decided to use a hop variety called Green Bullet that, even though originated from New Zealand, was said to be perfect for dark Irish Stouts. The name is taken from a popular tourist destination in Ireland called, The Cliffs of Moher (pronounced Moe-hair). They rise 390 ft above the Atlantic Ocean and receive almost one million visitors a year. An excellent compliment to our other Short's Irish standards, Moher Stout will provide yet another way for pub patrons to get in touch with their Irish roots this weekend.
