Origin Story

Proverbial Mind Spread- by Luke Whitely. Well, I'll be the first to admit... that this beer wasn't necessarily made on purpose. I came in early one day, on a Saturday, to brew a batch of Bellaire Brown. The reason I came in early was so that I could leave at 2pm, and head downstate to a Primus concert for a best friend's Birthday. I was pretty excited for the concert that night, and I think my mind was daydreaming a little. I made a small mistake in Bellaire Brown's malt bill, adding 15lbs of Chocolate malt, instead of 15lbs of Dark Chocolate malt. This small mistake actually changed the color considerably on the lovibond scale. It was a lighter color, and while it probably would have tasted very similar to Bellaire Brown, we couldn't sell it as such. Tony suggested we dry hop it with our newly acquired Azacca hops. These hops have an intense tropical fruit aroma. I thought it would be appropriate to name the beer after the likely reason for the mistake, so I suggested "Proverbial Mind Spread". This is a partial title of one of my favorite Primus songs (The full title is "Duchess and the Proverbial Mind Spread" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyasMtYTOhk ), and they played it later that night in Kalamazoo. This was the first time I've seen them play this track Live. I hope you enjoy this happy mistake. I think it turned out pretty good
