American India Pale Ale Made with Malted Rye
A rye dominated IPA with a radiant orange glow and intoxicating aroma. Massive floral hop qualities, amplified by notable rye characteristics, blend together perfectly offering subtle pine fragrances creating a truly memorable nose. The rye based theme continues as the distinctive flavors of this grain notably stand out as the distinguishable malt characteristic. The focus from rye to an intense bitterness shifts quickly and lingers well into the finish, transitioning into a heavy dryness during prolonged tastes.

Origin StoryWe have a new beer going on tap today at the pub and like most of these, there's a cool little background story to go with it. Brewed by Aaron Smith, one of our Elk Rapids brewers, this was his first beer brewed at Short's that was completely designed by him. As with many aspiring brewers, Aaron's brewing roots stem back to his days as a home brewer, creating in his kitchen and learning on a small scale what it takes to design a quality beer. Typically these home brews can be a gateway into a full time job at a brewery, as the originator of such beers will use them to showcase their potential and hopefully get their foot in the door. This was exactly the case for Aaron. Now, almost a year later and plenty of Short's experience under his belt, he still finds time to home brew and does so about 7 times a year. One of these batches turned out to be so enjoyable that he decided to bring some in for the boys at the plant to try. Under the scrutinizing approval of his supervisor, Tony Hansen, it was finally decided that Aaron would get a chance to spread his wings by brewing that particular recipe as an official Short's brewer. As for the name, rumor has it that it derives from the response given to him by Mary Jo when he first asked her out on a date.
