Über Goober

Origin Story

Uber Goober dates back to November of 2007. It was the first idea I ever proposed for a beer at Short's and the very first beer I had the privilege to co-brew with Joe. It was based off of my primary diet at the time (peanut butter and jelly sandwiches) and my favorite beer style prior to working at Short's (Oatmeal Stouts). The inaugural brew day was chaotic with an accidental malt bill of 800lbs (the largest Short's recipe at the time), a 14 hour brew day caused by a sticky oatmeal infused stuck mash, and ultimately the pureeing of 90lbs of dry roasted peanuts with an over sized stick blender. Thankfully, the beer turned out tasting really good, so was worth all the interesting scenarios that came at us that day down in the brewery. As for the name, I was at a total loss and couldn't think of anything. Luckily, in a moment of inspirational genius, Steve Ison came into work one morning and announced that he had the perfect name figured out, Uber Goober! I agreed, it was pretty darn perfect.
