The year was 2006 and the pubtender was Jeremy. Jeremy had this little trick where he would regularly “wow” patrons by placing a full pint of beer at the end of a long wooden pole and then balance the other end of the pole on his chin, beer and all! Impressive enough to inspire an Imperial Pilsner, Jeremy was immortalized into eternity in the name and label artwork of the most recent Short’s specialty beer to hit shelves throughout Michigan: The Curl!
One of the first Imperial beers made at Short’s, The Curl (7% ABV, 50 IBU) is an American Pilsner with an appealing clear, bright, golden straw color. Faint esters of fresh baked bread and grain aromas precede similar flavors, resulting from the abundance of flake maize used in this recipe. Hefty doses of hops create a pronounced dryness that seamlessly blends with the crisp, clean finish.
The Curl has made its way statewide and should be available at a fine craft beer retailer in your area starting 9/27. Be sure to grab your six pack of The Curl fast though, because like all specialty offerings, quantities are limited.
