Freedom of the body, freedom of the mind… Freedom of ’78!

Freedom of the body, freedom of the mind, it’s time to free one of our favorite releases of the year, Freedom of ‘78! This brew holds a special place in our hearts as it was the first collaboration beer we ever created here at Short’s. A young Joe Short went on a tour at Half Acre Beer Co. while visiting Chicago for CBC and spotted a boognish; the rest was a history of mutual respect, love of Ween, and most importantly, creating awesome beer. As this professional friendship blossomed, the two breweries thought it was high time to brew a beer in honor of this awesome band they both loved. So when the time to collaborate came, inspiration was drawn from Ween in two ways, the album Pure Guava, guided the gents to this delicious marriage of hops and guava, and the song Freedom of ‘76 was fittingly renamed to express the shared birth year of the brewery owners, ‘78!

Freedom of ’78 (6.9% ABV – 70 IBU) is a medium-bodied IPA brewed with guava. This IPA is bright and clear with a pleasing bronze hue. The beers aroma is a unique fusion of citrus fruit and subtle pine. The distinct characteristics of the guava nectar are impossible to miss with flavors of tangerine, nectarine, and even faint honey detectable. The finish is bitter and dry.

So while this beer began with humble, yet delicious, beginnings in 2010, we and Half Acre continue to bring it back to thirsty fans each year, and every year it seems to go faster than the last. Look for it to hit store shelves throughout this week, pick up a six pack, and enjoy it on a hot summer day (preferably while listening to Pure Guava).
