The time has arrived for the good people of Michigan to rejoice again in the shining radiance of Freedom! This week marks the much-anticipated return of Short’s Brewing’s first ever collaboration beer, Freedom of ’78: Pure Guava IPA. First brewed in conjunction with Half Acre Beer Company (Chicago, IL) in 2010, Freedom of ’78 is being released in bottles statewide for only the third time.
Freedom of ’78 is a medium-bodied IPA with a wonderful bright clarity and pleasing bronze color. The aroma is a unique fusion of citrus fruit combined with subtle pine qualities. Brewed with generous quantities of guava nectar, the distinct sharp sweetness and slightly tart guava flavors snap across the palate. Attributes of tangerine, nectarine, and even some faint honey flavors are detectable. The finish quickly turns to a bitterness expected of an IPA, one that resonates and turns dry during prolonged tastings.
Already available in 6-packs at the Short’s brewpub, expect to see Freedom of ’78 (6.9% ABV, 89 IBU) in retailers throughout Michigan by the end of this week. Channel your inner William Wallace and get stoked about Freedom!
