The story behind Dark Daze: Smoked Porter is unfortunately not that compelling. A few months back, Tony had been wanting to revisit the glory days of the 2007 Imperial Beer Series release party, which had been celebrated at the pub by hosting a 13 course small plate beer dinner pairing event. Now this didn't mean he wanted to do an event with that many food courses and that many high gravity beer selections, but the idea was to begin doing some smaller scaled beer dinners hosted at the pub. It even got to the point where there were some potential food courses being suggested and questions as to whether or not we could create some specific brand new beers to pair up with them. Alas, with all of the insanity surrounding the continued growth of the company, including a substantial expansion to the pub this spring, the idea of Short's hosting our own series of beer dinners had to be shelved for the time being (but I got a really good feeling that we'll all get to see something amazing like this happen in the near future). However, one beer did get brewed, that was considered to have great pairing potential, which will allow all of us the fun opportunity to experiment with it during our own food pairing endeavors. Will the deli be making brisket any time soon???
