Go Juice

Milkshake IPA with Mundos Ethiopian Gelana Abaya Coffee, marshmallow fluff, milk sugar, and vanilla

Go Juice is a Milkshake IPA with Mundos Ethiopian Gelana Abaya Coffee, marshmallow fluff, milk sugar, and vanilla. Cloudy and tan in color, there are aromas of bright citrus mingling with coffee and vanilla. Full in body, Go Juice leads with flavors of citrus and fruity coffee. With a slight sweetness in the mouthfeel and vanilla in the finish, it creates a uniquely delicious combination of hoppy and sweet.

Origin Story

I originally loved the first pub batch of “Snake Juice” that we made, even when I first thought the combination of hops and coffee sounded strange. It turned out, it was delicious, in my opinion. So to continue our Milkshake IPA series... I thought that a hoppy coffee IPA would work perfectly with the “Milkshake” characteristics of being sweet from the lactose, and having a touch of vanilla, like a flavored coffee creamer. (Flavored coffee creamer is an unhealthy vice of mine that I’ll never be able to shake, and will probably lead to my downfall somehow.) We also added 5 gallons of marshmallow fluff, for added creaminess, sweetness. The coffee we selected was an Ethiopian-Guji region coffee, roasted locally by Mundos Roasting & Co. in Traverse City, MI. This type of coffee had characteristics of being sweet and fruity. The name I decided to go with was “GO Juice”, which is just a slang term for coffee or espresso because of the caffeinated boost you get when drinking it. (Thank you, Captain Obvious.) The artwork concept was designed by me, and absolutely perfectly executed by Carrie Metz-Caporusso. To continue with the skeletal/slightly morbid nostalgia theme of the Milkshake IPA label art... I wanted a human skeleton, with a stormy kromer hat on, snow shovel in hand, with a coffee cup full of “Go Juice” in the other hand. Kind of an ode to Northern Michigan winters, and subtly acknowledging a Red Green show sign-off on his television show, ...“Remember, I’m pulling for ya, we’re all in this thing together.” This is definitely a unique tasting brew, and I was a little worried about the result of this recipe, but I think it turned out pretty damn good.
