From Forest to Bottle, Spruce Pilsner is Ready for Savoring

About a month ago, Joe Short summoned the troops (trusty Short’s Brewing Company employees) and set out for a top secret location. The mission? Harvest enough fresh and ever so fragrant blue spruce tips to brew and share Spruce Pilsner with residents of the Great Lakes state!

Armed with bags, buckets, clippers, and a handy dandy scale, we took to the spruce forest and picked only the choicest of spruce tips for this brew. Ushered into the kettle that very same day and combined with crystal clear Michigan water and hops from Michigan Hop Alliance, this brew has been awaited with much anticipation

Spruce Pilsner (9.3% ABV – 65 IBU) is an Imperial Pilsner, fermented with local, hand-picked blue spruce tips. The spruce presence, rooted in historical brewing practices, is enormous and gives the beer a refreshing gin quality. This beer is impressively light bodied, considering the immense spruce flavors and the prodigious additions of hops.

Spruce Pilsner, now available on store shelves throughout the state of Michigan, is the kind of beer you’ll want to savor. Like all of our specialty releases, this brew is only bottled once a year (timed with the growth of the spruce tree). Pour a pint and take a walk, commune with nature in your own back yard, or share with friends and family.  Cheers!
