The Mecca of Michigan Craft Brews – a Summer Beer Fest Recap

IMG_2802This past weekend many of us at Short’s ventured downstate for the 17th annual Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Festival.  The event took place on July 25th and 26th, 2014 at beautiful Riverside Park in Ypsilanti and was attended by more than 85 Michigan craft breweries featuring over 800 craft brews.

Needless to say, this festival is one of the highlights of our summer.  The opportunity to network with people from other craft breweries, meet Short’s fans, taste beers from other Michigan craft breweries, and pour tasty Short’s brews on a beautiful summer weekend is something we totally dig.

Our Festival and Events Department wasn’t allowed to eat or sleep for weeks leading up to the festival in order to prepare for this event. OK, that may not be exactly true, but they did put tons of time and TLC into getting ready for Summer Beer Fest, to ensure attendees would have the best time possible when they stopped by the Short’s booth.

DSC02980Of course, the best part of any beer festival is tasting beer! This year, we were proud to collaborate with Fermenta: Women’s Craft Collective to brew “It’s About Thyme” an American India Pale Ale brewed with orange blossom honey and fresh thyme.  The remainder of our 20 beer lineup included Short’s summertime favorites Nicie Spicie and Cerveza de Julie, as well as delicious specialty releases MMMKay, India Spruce Pilsner, Key Lime Pie, Strawberry Short’s Cake, Bourbon Evil Urges, and Whiskey Sour.

DSC03034Between pouring and liberating tasty Short’s brews, we still had time for a friendly game of Corn Hole with Greenbush Brewing Company and to taste some of our friends’ delicious recipes.
