As part of Short’s Brewing Company’s 9th Anniversary Party on April 27th, Founder and CEO Joe Short gave his annual State of the Brewery address. Among many highlights, Short pointed to distribution sales up 35%, pub sales up 30%, and total number of employees up 40% in 2012 compared to 2011. Between statewide bottle releases and beers served exclusively at the Short’s brewpub (Bellaire, MI), Short’s Brewing Company created 120 unique beers in 2012, and 45 of those were brewed for the very first time. More than $1.5 million was invested in equipment while an additional $440,000 went into building improvements. With just over 18,000 barrels of beer produced in 2012, Short’s Brewing Company is the fourth largest brewery in Michigan. “Taking into consideration we put everything back into this company and more,” said Short, “we’re always living on the edge to some degree and it’s that fearlessness, our business acumen, and creative prowess that allows us to be this way.”
