Short’s Spotlight: Craig Buechel

On this week’s edition of Short’s spotlight, we give you Craig Buechel! Craig works in the kitchen at our pub crafting tasty foods to pair with Short’s brews and Starcut Ciders. Learn a little more about this fine member of our staff below!

What’s your name? What do people call you? What do you call yourself?
My name is Craig Buechel (pronounced boo-shell, like a scary seashell). Most of the people in the kitchen call me Craigles a select few call me Craigolas and Craigery or Craigifer. I just call myself Craig though.

How long have you been with Short’s and in what roles?
I’ve been at Short’s since June of 2014 and I’ve worked almost all the kitchen positions aside from Executive Chef.

Give us the short story of your life before your Short’s story began.
Before Short’s I put in 5 years at Shanty Creek Resorts. Started as a dishwasher and worked my way up to lead line cook before leaving to work at Short’s as a Deli Ninja.

What is your favorite thing about living in Northern Michigan?
My favorite thing about living in northern Michigan is that I’m never more than just a short drive to fresh water. I was raised downstate near Detroit, so moving up north was a welcome change.  I really feel that we have something special with the natural beauty of where we live. And I love to swim!!!

Which beer (or cider) style best describes your personality?
The beer I think I’m most like is Autumn Ale since we both strive to have a perfect balance ;).

What is your favorite mythical creature?
Can Pokemon count as mythical creatures? If so Absol. If not then dragons. Ice dragons.

If you could have any kind of taco RIGHT NOW, what would it be? (Don’t skimp on the details, we want a full description).
An Asian style chicken taco with ghost pepper sauce, tomatoes, Errik Cornell’s wasian slaw in a cooler ranch crunchy taco shell from Taco Bell.

Where is your favorite place to drink a Short’s beer, and what beer would you be drinking?
My favorite place to drink a Short’s brew is on torch lake on a nice warm 75 degree day and it would be either Johnny Five or Autumn Ale.

What’s your favorite thing or idea right now?
Currently my favorite thing is the new family I have with my girlfriend, her children, and our pets. Being a part of their lives has really enhanced everything in my own life. It’s all well and good to have great accomplishments that you’ve achieved on your own, but to me, it means that much more when you have a family to share it with.
