Today, we want to say a big ol’ thank you to one of our good friends, Tanya Whitley! For those of you who don’t already know it, Tanya is the artist behind many of our favorite beer labels (102 labels and counting) and the aunt of one of our pub brewers, Luke Whitley. Illustrating by hand, Tanya carefully crafts works of art dreamt up by our staff. From Space Rock to Old Reliable, Melt My Brain, ERMAGERDNESS, and the brand new Tiramisu Blonde, Tanya translates the craziest of our ideas to paper and label.
“Her range is deep, and her passion is great. Her technique is super raw and beautiful. Tanya’s a rare talent with a heart of gold,” said Short’s Art Director, Jesse Den Herder. In a digital world, it’s worth mentioning that Tanya illustrates each label by hand without the assistance of a computer or Photoshop.
Tanya and our Head Brewer, Tony Hansen are particularly in sync having worked together on developing Short’s labels for several years. According to Tony “Tanya brings our ideas to a whole new level. She adds incredible details that create another dimension to the character of our beer. I’m a huge fan of her work and feel privileged to work with her.”
So Tanya, if you’re reading this, we just wanted to take a moment to thank you. Your work brings the kind of life to our brews that water, hops, grain, and yeast simply can not. Cheers to the first 100, and with any luck, 100 more!
